Mandela Dies At 95

Madiba Nelson Mandela, Thursday night succumbed to the cold hands of death after months of medical battles to keep him alive. At 95, Mandela lived a fulfilled life filled with struggles for his native country's march to democracy. He fought for an equitable society and inspired many across the world. He was a most incredible leader the world over who gave series of amazing gifts to the global community.

The integrity and the physical size of Madiba as well as his strong determination brought down the apartheid structures hoisted upon his native South Africa. Indeed, not just South Africa, the world has lost a legendary non violent and anti apartheid leader who inspired many across the world.

Mandela, joint winner of 1993 Nobel Peace Prize, was born on July 18, 1918. He was South African President from 1994 to 1999 after spending 27 years in prison. He refused to hate and overcame all forms of hatred earning the respect of the world in the process.

Madiba forgave those who jailed him and insisted that his jailers be seated with his family at his inauguration and led the way in the reconciliation process that guaranteed peace in modern day South Africa.

During his trial in 1964, he expressed his desire for the democratic ideal for which he is prepared to die. He transformed South Africa with a shining example of how best to live a life of forgiveness. His life was guided by his hopes and not by his fears. His commitment to reconciliation was remarkable.

To borrow the words of American President Barack Obama, the world may never see another in the like of Madiba, a man who took history in his hands and transformed South Africa from an apartheid enclave to a democratic society.

Madiba reached out in many million ways from the forgiveness of the 90s and built the foundation of peaceful era in South Africa. He will definitely live on in the minds of not just South Africans, but in the heart of all peace lovers across the world.

The most remarkable thing Madiba did for Africa was his walking away from politics after just a single term when he could have gone a second term just for the asking! No other African leader has had the courage and boldness to tow this path of integrity for the love of their  native land.

May the soul of Madiba rest in peace, amen!
