  Mohammed Abacha Mohammed Abacha, son of Nigeria's late former military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha on Tuesday failed to show up for his trial on an amended nine counts charge of stolen property involving the sum of N444.63 billion made up in foreign currencies and travelers cheques. The scion of the Abacha family was to be arraigned before an Abuja High Court presided by Justice Mamman Kolo for allegedly receiving stolen property said to belong to the federal government which his late father stole from the national treasury while he was at the helm of affairs in the country. His absence however stalled proceedings as his lawyer,  Dr Reuben Atabo, told the court that his client was recuperating from a heart related ailment following his doctor's advice that he take a two weeks bed rest. Nigeria's National Assembly A visibly angry Justice Ramat Mohammed of  Federal High Court in Abuja, Tuesday berated the House of Representatives over a purported injunction said to have been granted by the court restraining the House Committee on Public Accounts from inviting and interrogating the Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezanni Allison Madueke, in connection with the committee's probe of a controversial N10 billion aircraft charter scam involving the Petroleum minister. The embattled minister had approached the court seeking to stop the House from inviting or summoning her to appear before it over the multi billion Naira aircraft charter scam which is being investigated by the legislators but the court declined to grant her application but however directed the minister to serve court papers on both the National Assembly and the House of Representatives for them to come before the court and show cause why the reliefs being sought by the minister should not be granted...

Controversial Aircraft Charter: Diezanni Moves To Thwart Probe Desperate moves by embattled Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezanni Alison-Madueke to thwart the impending probe of a controversial Ten Billion Naira Aircraft charter scam rocking the Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPC, has collapsed. The minister, alongside the NNPC had approached a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja seeking to stop their appearance before the House Representatives' Committee on Public Accounts which is investigating the aircraft charter scam. An Abuja High Court presided by Justice Peter Affen on Thursday declared the controversial park and pay policy of the FCT Administration as illegal. The court held that although the park and pay policy may be described as an excellent policy, it lacked the appropriate backing of the law and as such illegal and ordered that the policy be discontinued with immediate effect. An Abuja based mortgage bank, Sun Trust Savings and Loans Limited, had dragged the FCT Minister two park and pay operators, Integrated Parking Services and Najec Parking Services, before the court challenging the legality of collecting fees from Abuja motorists through the park and pay policy. Twenty four hours after the fatal attack masterminded by suspected Boko Haram insurgents at a Bus park at Nyanya, 16 kilometer outside Nigeria's capital city centre, the  National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has stated that one more death has been recorded from the blast which rocked the city earlier hours on Monday. While giving an update on the bomb incident to journalists in his office in Abuja, the Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Muhammed Sani-Sidi, said agency urgently need blood for the treatment of the wounded victims and  urged Nigerians to visit the various hospitals where the victims are hospitalized to donate blood. He said the agency has received a report confirming that one of the victims has died at the Asokoro Hospital, thus bringing the number of death to 72. The National Human Rights Commission on Monday indicted Nigeria's security agencies for gross violation of human rights of Nigerian citizens killed by security operatives last September at an uncompleted building at Apo, within the Gudu District of the Abuja metropolis. In its final report following the completion of investigations in the matter, the Commission noted that although there is on going non-international armed conflict in Nigeria in view of the nation's battle against terrorism and insurgency, but that the security agencies were not in possession of any credible evidence showing that the deceased victims or the injured ones were in fact members of Boko Haram or combatants.  The Rights Commission also faulted the claims of the security agencies that they acted in self defense at the fatal operation where eight persons were shot dead with eleven others seriously wounded.
