New Pope Emerges

Habemus Papem! We have a Pope! At exactly 7:34pm in Vatican City, the much awaited white smoke appeared from the chimney of Siesten chapel indicating that a new Pope has emerged! Over 1.2 billion Catholic faithful across the world had eagerly awaited the white smoke and the joy at its emergence was ecstatic. Habemus Papem! We have a Pope!!! Thousands who thronged the St. Peter's Basilica to catch the first glimpse of the new Pope however had to wait till 8:14 pm when Cardinal Tauran emerged at the balcony at the Basilica to announce and unveiled the new Pope. He's Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina, became a Cardinal in 2001. First South American Pope. He takes the name of Francis. At exactly 8:22 pm. The new Pope appeared at the window to speak to the crowd.

Supreme Court Fixes Judgment Date For  Okorocha's Appeal Nnamdi Felix / Abuja The Supreme Court has fixed 24th January, 2014 to deliver judgment in an appeal filed by Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha, challenging the decision of an Appeal Court in Owerri, which joined former governor of the state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, in an appeal instituted by Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, the candidate of then Action Congress of Nigeria in the governorship election held in the state in 2011. Senator Ararume is challenging the May 6th, 2011 supplementary elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission which ushered in Okorocha as the governor of state. Proceedings at the court was disrupted by conflicting appearance by different lawyers who claimed to have been briefed by different persons claiming to be the national. Accused Pension Director Seeks EFCC Dissolution

Embattled former director of Pensions at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Shuaibu Sani Teidi,  who is standing trial on an alleged embezzlement, on Tuesday approached a Federal High Court siting in Abuja asking the court to make an order nullifying the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Establishment Act which, according to him, is illegal, null and void. Speaking through his lawyer, Mr. Edgar Onoja, the former director urged the court to hold that the National Assembly went against the spirit of the Nigerian Constitution by setting up a body to perform the duties of the Nigerian Police Force contrary to the constitution.  "The purpose of this suit, is to declare the EFCC Act as unconstitutional since the organization carries out the duties of the Police.
